II Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
In 2008, we endured a specific situation with our fourth child. At the age of three years, Katie went into kidney failure as a result of e-coli. It was a time in our lives that fear was palpable. We had to battle taking control of the situation ourselves, as a result of our fear, versus letting God have control. For both of us the lyrics from a song by Twila Paris were a great source of encouragement. “GOD IS IN CONTROL. THIS IS NO TIME TO FEAR. THIS IS A TIME FOR FAITH AND DETERMINATION.” We know that nothing comes into our lives until it first passes through the will of God. Whenever we reflect on and grumble about what went wrong or what we could have done differently, we remind each other that it was God’s will. II Corinthians 12:9 states “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” God did make us strong in our own weaknesses. When we were tired, He sent people to encourage us. When we questioned our decisions, He sent a calming spirit. He gave us eyes to see His awesome power surrounding us. We were touched and humbled to see God at work in our lives through Katie’s struggle. God is our rock of salvation; He gave us a shelter from the storm and taught us that it’s okay to hurt and feel sorrow. We have so much to be thankful for – God’s healing power, prayer, encouragement and a family at Grace Baptist Church.
