Welcome to day 22 of our 40 day devotional of praise and testimonies!
Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ.”
Grace Baptist Church was begun by a small group of individuals who were concerned about the integrity of the teaching and that the Gospel be preached. Upon moving to the Batavia area 55 years ago as a teen of 15, we were invited by a neighbor who rode our school bus to attend church with them. The Munger family was one of the founding members and they faithfully picked my sister, brother and me up and took us to services where each of us as we heard the gospel preached, responded and were saved and baptized. Having attended Grace Baptist Church so many years, I have been privileged to learn from Pastors Matthewson, Mott, Brain, Hurne, Billings and Shirk. As our church grew and shrunk and grew again, I had the opportunity to teach many children and youth in Sunday school, the youth program, junior church and vacation Bible school. It was exciting to see God working as people were saved and grew spiritually. As we grew, it became apparent that we needed larger facilities and the building was erected on Vine Street. Over the years most of the founding members have gone home to be with their Lord and many, many families have come and gone. Some were relocated to other areas and some trained to become pastors and missionaries. God is still building His church. My favorite times are when we hear the testimonies and observe the baptisms of those wishing to join our church and when the young people give their presentations. Every testimony is different and God has worked in marvelous ways to bring people to Him. Over the years, God has been so faithful. He has provided in ways I could never have imagined possible. The promise in Philippians can be claimed by each of us individually and all of us at Grace Baptist Church collectively.
