Day 18 “Choices That Please God”

Welcome to day 18 of our 40 day devotional of praise and testimonies!

 Ellen Greathouse

Joshua 24:15 “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

We have to make choices every day. From very basic to extremely complex, we can’t escape them. The college years are particularly challenging when it comes to making choices. I know it was for me. It was an exciting time with new found freedom, but that in itself added to the challenge. With all of the best intentions, it was too easy to get caught up in all of the fun. Add the stress of a heavy course load and a job and a social life and watch the excuses pour in. “I’ll just stop church this week and go next week…” turned into “well, Thanksgiving is coming, I’ll go to church then” and even further to “at least I belong to a Christian fraternity.” Sadly, it took almost four years for the emptiness to get me to the point to call out to God. This prayer, asking for both forgiveness and then direction to make wise choices was a turning point in my life I’m forever grateful to God for His grace and mercy.

  1. Hi Ellen,

yes, you are so right about college days. It was

a challenge with all the freedom from being away

from home. I did attend church as I came home

most weekends which kept me on tract. I have

enjoyed reading these devotionals so very much

and thank you for sharing your own with us.

I am always happy to see you and family at

church and maybe the time will come that I can

get around to greet more of the family.

I do Praise God for all that you have done and

are doing for the church family..

Thanks again and have and enjoy this beautiful

day that the Lord has given to us…. alice C
